About Us
Hello! We Are From Karbon Biru.
First of all,
What is Karbon Biru?
‘Karbon Biru’ or blue carbon is a terminology for carbon captured and stored by the world's ocean and coastal ecosystems, such as wetlands, mangrove, seagrasses, macroalgae, and marshes.
For us, ‘Biru’ or blue is a universal color that reflects goodness, neutrality, and is fairly genderless since it is often associated with something harmless and natural like blue sky and the ocean.
Karbon Biru is a mangrove and wetlands carbon sequestration project that aim to foster :
1
Blue Forest Conservation
2
Blue Economy
3
Wildlife & Functional Diversity
4
Blue Society Protection
Blue forest conservation as a biological carbon capture and storage.
Blue society protection by advocating coastal ecosystem as better, easier, and more affordable coastal protection. We focus on blue growth and local resiliency.
Wildlife and functional diversity of surrounding mangrove area.
Blue economy by treating wastewater effluent from brackish pond and enabling silvofishery before discharged to the ocean.
Our Raison d’etre...
(It means our reason to exist)
is to use know-how in technical and social fields to develop Natural Based Solutions for humanity and nature. We want to free humans from the limitations and thinking that sustainability and economic growth are trade-offs.
Therefore, together with Karbon Biru, we invite you (business, institutions, and individuals) to contribute to the progress and challenge the notions by adopting a tree/trees now. #BluingTheEarth

Our Vision
Covered coast, where the land meets the sea, with our blue forest.
Our Mission
1
Planting 1 million mangroves to enhance coastal ecosystems.
2
Providing long-term carbon offsetting services for individuals, companies, and institutions through the use of biological Carbon Sequestration Systems (CSS).
3
Providing wastewater treatment and silvofishery practices using constructed wetlands.
4
Generate economic value from mangrove resources and make a meaningful contribution to society.
5
Being the powerhouse for wetlands and mangrove research.
6
Completing the loop in the biogeochemical and nutrient cycle.
“ There is one thing that we are certain of: ideas are a dozen and are all on everyone’s fingertips. Great innovations are just one click away. It’s the implementation of the idea that is worth something. ”
Our History
We are a group of youths from emerging nations. We grew up and spent our childhood in coastal areas -- where since before the world war has been the trade hubs and economic activities.
From a very young age we have felt the responsibility to contribute to the greater-good — but the question is ‘we don’t know how’. Then, we started to do something small: teaching, working at a trash bank and recycle business unit, working with microbes; and at the end of the day, switching our education background from linear economy to circular economy.
We were given a scholarship opportunity from Circular Economy (CIRCLE) , a joint Erasmus Mundus Masters program, and met at Industrial Ecology from Leiden/TU Delft Universities. Learning the Earth System, socio-technical dimensions, biotechnology, and Transitions, Innovation and Governance in the perspective of science suddenly gave us enlightenment.
Together we believe global climate change, poverty, and the collapse of our tipping points are not something that humanity shall fight against — instead, it is a cry, and an open invitation from the Earth so that we can listen and see better.
